What fandoms can I write for?
Our fest is open to all fandoms. For historical fandom trends, you can find a detailed breakdown of authorship in our first round here.

Can my inspiration be ___?
Previously our fest was only aimed at TV and film inspirations, but we have now expanded to allow literary works as well. For general guidelines on choosing your inspirations, please visit our GUIDELINES section.

If you have more specific questions, feel free to reach out via email, Twitter DMs, or CC!

Can I change my fandom/ships/source/etc.?
You can change details of your piece as many times as you'd like during the writing period, and we will ask you to resubmit both your inspiration source and fandom during check-in. After that, we request that you inform us of any major changes so we can plan postings.

Is it okay if my inspiration overlaps with someone else?
Yes, that's totally fine! You can draw from the same media source as other people, so please choose whatever you want.

If you're personally worried about overlapping and want to know whether someone else has chosen the same inspiration as you, you can always email us one-on-one and we'll let you know. However, please note that people's choices are subject to change over the course of the writing period, so that answer won't necessarily be permanent.

Will this fest have an anon period?
We plan on keeping authors anonymous during the posting period (1-2 weeks). Authors will then be revealed 2 days after that period ends.

Can I submit chaptered fic?
Yes! You're free to submit single-chapter fic, incomplete chaptered fic, or completed chaptered fic. It is completely permissible to only submit a starting chapter and continue writing after the end of the festival period.

FAQ

▶︎ Guidelines

We understand that media categorization can be quite finnicky. Ideally, we request that any inspiration you pick:

1) have a distinct narrative
2) fall under the category of either cinema or literature
3) not be an unpublished or informal digital piece, such as an existing work of fanfiction.

Appropriate media includes, but is not limited to:

CINEMA
Movies (live action, animated)
TV (dramas, animes, web dramas, reality shows)

LITERATURE
Published novels, short stories (physically or digitally)
Published sequential art (graphic novels, manga, webcomics)

Since the categories are already so broad, we've decided to not allow video games for this round.

Of course, we also understand that the criteria that determine narrative can be ambiguous; we trust you to know your own sources of inspiration and to decide whether something speaks to you. For example, these lines blur easily within the realm of short stories, poetry collections, webcomics, etc.—if you’re attached to something specific, we can probably work with it. Try to keep the general structure of the fest in mind, but don’t feel too restricted by these guidelines either!
